See the sights of the historic Tadami Line on this special limited-time tour. Including trips by both bus and on the train itself, you’ll have the chance not only to take pictures at the train’s best photo spots, but also experience seeing its sights first-hand from the carriage. Most notably, you’ll visit one of the Oku-Aizu region’s most stunning locales: the spectacular vista over the Tadami River Bridge No.1, where the region turns a beautiful emerald green that makes for great photos. You can also choose between two authentic local experiences: a wooden ferry boat ride through the ethereal river valley of Mugenkyo, or a trip to the traditional mountain hot spring at Hayato Onsen. Please note: the Mugenkyo ferry boat ride is very popular and can quickly become booked up, as roughly only half of the tour participants can ride the ferry. On occasions when the ferry is fully booked, other guests will have to select the Hayato Onsen bathing ticket, although there is no requirement to use it. The ticket comes with a free bath towel and carbonated water. The area around the hot spring offers beautiful scenery, and you are welcome to take a walk or relax in the tatami rest area. Guests can also choose to watch the boat at the Mugenkyo dock, although there is only little shade, and the bus air conditioning will be turned off during the ferry ride. We apologise for the inconvenience. The trip includes lunch at the roadside station ‘Hotto’ in Yanaizu, where you’ll choose one of the region’s specialties to try (chicken ramen, refreshing cold udon or pork katsudon), and you’ll have the chance to sample or buy sake at the traditional store Gonoi. Guests will receive an awa-manju, a traditional warm sweet of the area featuring anko (sweet red bean paste) in a millet coating. The udon option contains no meat, although dashi fish stock is used for the soup and the dish comes with an egg topping. Unfortunately, the tour operator cannot accept special meal requests or changes at this time. The tour includes a Japanese-speaking guide. Please be aware that this tour may be subject to change or cancellation in cases of extreme weather or unavoidable circumstances. Thank you for your understanding. Adult tickets (junior high school student and above) cost 7,670 yen (6,900 yen with a 770yen processing fee) Children (elementary school students or below) cost 5,450 yen (4,900 yen with a 550yen processing fee) This price includes lunch costs, bus and train tickets for the whole day, and the price of either the Mugenkyo ferry boat ride or the entrance fee for the hot spring. Tour dates: May 23rd, 24th, 30th, and 31st, 2026 / June 27th and 28th / Every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday in July The Mugenkyo ferry does not run on May 23rd or 30th, or on July 11th. The tour leaves from Aizu-Wakamatsu Station at 9:55am and returns there at 5:25pm. Guests staying in Higashiyama Onsen are eligible for pick-up and drop-off there at 9:30am and 5:40pm respectively.
