Tatami Making Experience
Tatami Village is a tatami factory, shop and cafe based in Sukagawa City, with a history tracing back as far as 1740 and now working from a beautiful new facility. Tatami mats, the traditional Japanese woven flooring made with rush grass, are made here, and in addition to touring the site, you'll also make a souvenir coaster of your own to take home. The location of the experience is something you don't want to miss! The modern facility was opened with the desire to "spread tatami culture around the world," and you can relax in the cafe after the experience and tour with a complimentary matcha (green tea). Sukagawa City is easily accessible by local train from Koriyama or Shin-Shirakawa.
